Celestron C11 with Hyperstar

This telescope is a Celestron CPC 1100 with the Hyperstar C11 v3, f/2 on an equatorial wedge.

The camera is a Starlight Xpress H9C. Focusing is provided by a Starizona Micro Touch Autofocuser.

Software installed on the laptop for your use includes:

You will access the control computer using remote control software called Logmein.

The Hyperstar is very fast at f/2. If you haven’t used a Hyperstar before, prepare to be surprised and impressed. And the CCD Commander software is excellent for putting your night’s imaging plan into action.

Sample Images Captured from the Celestron CPC 1100

Tips on using the C11 – Hyperstar set up.

  1. Plan to image about one target per hour using multiple 90 second exposures.
  2. Do not exceed 120 seconds per image because you are taking unguided images and this is more than enough exposure for the Hyperstar
  3. Refocus about every 30 minutes to account for temperature changes.
  4. Operate CCD Commander in the fastest (B&W) mode with audio muted to speed up connectivity.
  5. Download a trial of CCD Commander and learn the software if you are not already familiar with it. It is very easy to use. There is an excellent tutorial called “take the tour” on their website.
  6. Despite both of us having good internet connections, there will be a 2-3 second latency delay between you ‘pressing a button’ and seeing an indication that the action is underway. Please Be Patient.
